A note from Pastor Becky: How we can Help in Response to Hurricane Helene?
The devastation from Hurricane Helene has left many grieving, displaced, and desperate for help. Many Washington Street members, and friends, are asking how we can help with the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Helen?
In moments like these, we are reminded of the strength of our United Methodist connection through agencies like UMCOR who are able to respond immediately with direct aid where it is needed. Thus, the leadership of Washington Street has acted quickly to determine how we can respond in the most efficient and effective manner.
For those who would like to participate in addition to being in prayer, here are 3 specific ways you can help now through Washington Street UMC:
1. You may purchase supplies to fill Flood Buckets/Hygiene Kits.
A list of items needed for each flood buckets and hygiene kits can be seen in the photos at the end of this post.

Your donations may be dropped off at Threatt Hall by Sunday, October 13th.

2. If you are unable to do the gathering, but would like to donate funds for the Flood Bucket/Hygiene Kit.

3. Make a monetary donation to The United Methodist Committee on Relief – UMCOR
UMCOR comes alongside those who suffer from natural or human-caused disasters – famine, hurricane, war, flood, fire or other events—to alleviate suffering and serve as a source of help and hope for the vulnerable.
Because annual appointment gifts from UM congregations support the administration costs associated with UMCOR, 100 percent of your donation will go directly to relief and recovery efforts.

As I am writing this note I am reminded of how blessed WSUMC is with members who possess compassionate hearts and demonstrate faithful commitment to being the Body of Christ visibly at work in the world. Thank you for your generosity.
