Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, do not hinder them.”
We want to partner with you in your child’s faith growth. At Washington Street, we intentionally create a safe, secure, and nurturing environment where children are guided to grow in their faith and become genuine followers of Jesus Christ. as we welcome them with love, expressing Jesus’ words when He taught his disciples by saying, “let the children come to me”.
What to expect
You and your child will be welcomed with a smile as our team helps you get checked in.
Children’s Ministries at WSUMC are places where children learn they are loved by God and the people of God. We understand that even as infants and toddler’s children begin to see the world and understand about God’s love for them. All of our children’s ministries are designed so that children can engage in fun and creative stories and activities that help shape, guide and empower their growth in faith.
We invite you to join us as we partner with your family’s desire to grow in faith and share life together.

Children’s Moments
Children are invited to join their families in the Sancturary for the 11:00 am service of worship each week. We provide “activity bags” for young children at the entrance to the sanctuary and offer a brief “Children’s Moment” within the first 15 minutes of the service. The “Children’s Moment” is led by either one of the pastors or another caring adult in the congregation and consists of a brief object lesson or story related to the scripture lesson for that day. Following the “Children’s Moment”, children up to age 5 are invited to follow one of the adult leaders who will be standing at the door of the sanctuary and will lead them to “Children’s Church”.
Children’s Church
Children’s Church is a special time for children ages 3-5 that takes place in the Toddler room on the first floor immediately following the “Children’s Moment” during the 11:00 am service of worship. While participating in children’s church, children build healthy relationships with other children in the church as they engage in interactive games and crafts that reinforce the message they heard during the “Children’s Moment”.
Safe Sanctuary
Washington Street is a Safe Sanctuary congregation committed to providing a safe and caring environment where children can grow in their faith and relationships with others. This means all of the staff and volunteers who work with and lead our children’s ministries have passed background checks and participated in safety training.
