CONGREGATIONAL STUDY OF PHILIPPIANS
Thank you for joining us as we read through Paul’s letter to the church in Philippi. This will be a slow read for us as we join together in a sermon series entitled “Courage” based on passages from Philippians. We will begin the readings on August 18th, and will continue them through Sept. 16 as Rev. Becky ends her sermon series on Philippians.
Some days there will be more for you to read, while other days will only have two or three verses. This is intentional. Here’s my advice:
- Sit and savor it. Don’t rush. Don’t just check the box for the day. On the days when there are only a few verses, read them multiple times. Paul’s letter is very short, but it is packed with a lot of dense ideas.
- Read with a pen. Don’t be afraid to underline words or passages. Take Notes.
- Ask questions. If something confuses you or bugs you, don’t just close the book; Ask a question! Write your question in the margin, ask a pastor, a friend, or Google.
- We read it in context. Remember, this is a letter! It would have been read in one sitting, probably out loud— not in bite-sized chunks. So, we are going to read for 5 days then at the end of the week take our daily digest, and read it all together in one sitting, ideally out loud with other people! It’ll shift your perspective!
You aren’t reading alone. We’re doing this together, and your pastors will provide support along the way.
