Drive n’ Drop for Aldersgate!

Washington Street United Methodist Church (WSUMC) is holding it’s fourth Drive n’ Drop since May, this time collecting much-needed supplies for Aldersgate Special Needs Ministry. The drive will take place on August 6 and 7 from 10:00 am to noon in the parking lot of the church located at 1401 Washington Street on the corner of Bull and Washington Streets. The community is encouraged to participate in this worthy cause. Volunteers will receive the items in a socially responsible manner taking the donations directly from your car. Just drive through and drop off your gifts.

The Aldersgate Special Needs Ministry began at the 2003 South Carolina Annual Conference and provides homes for adults with developmental disabilities. Residents are encouraged to be as independent as possible. Their trained staff provides care in a Christian environment. Aldersgate depends on contributions from churches, groups, and individuals. Aug. 9, 2020, is designated as Aldersgate Special Needs Sunday by the South Carolina Conference. During normal times, WSUMC would collect funds during its services on the designated Aldersgate Special Needs Sunday each August. The COVID-19 restrictions, as well as the not having in-person worship, changes the dynamic of this fundraiser this year. With homes in Columbia, Florence, and Orangeburg, Aldersgate needs your help! We are asking for supply donations to help them close the divide between funds and the ability to purchase necessities. WSUMC will be collecting the following items for distribution at these homes. The items are listed by need.

  • Disposable Facemasks
  • Clorox/Lysol Wipes
  • Lysol Spray
  • Paper Towels
  • Liquid Antibacterial Soap
  • Bottled Water
  • Gloves
  • Toilet Paper
