Interim Director of Music
Organist Louis Shirer has spent more than 30 years working as a church musician in the Carolinas, New Jersey, and New York. Louis spent 16 years as Organist and Director of Handbells at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, and in August 2011 he was appointed as Organist at Washington Street United Methodist Church. As a soloist, Louis made his New York orchestral debut in 1984. He has performed solo recitals and accompanied choir tours throughout the United States and Canada. Louis holds degrees in organ performance from Winthrop University and Westminster Choir College. His teachers have included Thomas Spacht, David Lowry, Donald McDonald, Joan Lippincott and William Bates. In addition to his duties at Washington Street, Mr. Shirer teaches courses in Music Appreciation and Music Theory at Midlands Technical College.
